Below is the programme for the workshop convened by ASFB & RAFTS on 5 May 2010. Links to the relevant presentations are also provided. A link to the ASFB/RAFTS policy paper on salmon stocking can be found HERE. This material is provided as an interim measure and it is proposed to formalize the proceedings into a practical document through the Institute of Fisheries management (Scottish Branch). It is hoped to have this produced later in 2010.
The purpose of this workshop is to outline the legislative provisions relating to the stocking of salmon in Scotland and the national policies that have been developed to deliver this.
Used in the appropriate circumstances and based on sound advice, salmon stocking is one of a number of valuable tools at the disposal of fishery managers.
ASFB & RAFTS have developed a policy to assist DSFBs, as the statutory regulators for stocking of salmon and sea trout, in their statutory consenting function.
This workshop will examine current policy and practices with a view to gaining a better understanding of current operations in Scotland and what drives existing practice.
The Institute of Fishery Management have been invited to act as independent rapporteur and the outcomes of the workshop will be documented in proceedings which will be drafted with the involvement of all contributors.
