Renewable industry’s impact on salmon to be probed

Scientists are to explore the impact of marine renewables on wild Atlantic salmon in Scotland.

Leaping Salmon 3The project will focus on the migratory patterns of the species in the Pentland Firth, a key area for the salmon and the location of a series of major marine renewable developments.

The Pentland Firth Initiative is being led by scientists from North Highland College UHI’s Environmental Research Institute, part of the University of the Highlands and Islands.

Being located in Thurso, overlooking the Firth itself, the researchers are ideally placed to carry out the project on their own doorstep.
